Extra! Extra!

By Rev. William Duby

The latest edition of the American Spirit has hit the streets. You have before you a "grass roots" effort to let the American People exercise their voice of conscience. It is their pulpit (lectern), their ministry (service), so to speak. A calling together, a staying together and a putting together the "papered news spread"for the sensitive soul searching for "food for thought."

The newspaper isn't mainstream by any stretch of the imagination. It isn't supposed to be. That's the whole idea. It is different in that ordinary people (mostly non-experts) are writing about what they feel needs to be expressed in regard to a certain topic. It is their giving and sharing of their intuitive (perceptions) on subjects.

It is the personal understanding of certain American People.

It comes from the personal information (life experience) of certain American People.

It is the personal material of certain American People.

It is the personal facts of certain American People. In other words, the way they really see it.

It is the reporting of certain American People.

Nothing written here should be taken as gospel. The bible has four gospels and the "so called"experts can't agree about them, much less anything else. The American Spirit Newspaper is,FOOD FOR THOUGHT. Eat to your heart's content.

Those who are looking for facts (upon a topic) in the ordinary sense of the word should seek elsewhere. There are plenty of other publications that cater to that sort of thing. This newspaper isn't a technical manual. I don't believe the American Spirit will receive literary awards. I might state for the record, however, I believe it is an INSPIRATIONAL MASTERPIECE. How could it not be? It is a medium for the people to express their freedom of speech. It will acquaint the reader. It may inspire the reader. It may ignite the reader. It may invigorate the reader. It may encourage the reader. It may motivate the reader. It may make known unto the reader that the inner teacher has helped a thing or two become realized. What else can I say except that the newspaper may turn the reader on or off?

You might be asking why I bothered to write this editorial in the first place? Well, to begin with, I received a letter from a woman who was very upset with an article written in the American Spirit. She knew the writer (reporter) wasn't an expert. That he didn't know what he was talking about. The woman who complained knew she knew better than he did because she has the problem where he does not. Unlike him, she is qualified because her and the experts agree they know better. In essence, he had no business writing the article because he could hurt people by his opinions. Up until then I was doing okay.

I was prepared to read the complaint, do what I could do to help, even ask her to write an article on the topic that would be beneficial to others. I must admit, however, I became aggravated by her negative attitude towards the writer. It wasn't necessary. She wanted another to hurt as much as she hurt herself by adopting such a negative attitude in the first place. In fact, I was the one which she dumped on.

With that in mind, I began to question her motives. What did she mean that the writer (reporter) didn't have the right to give his opinion? He is an American Citizen! A member of the greatest people on earth. His opinion is just as valuable as the one she is offering me. Besides, he didn't intend to hurt anyone. The spirit of the law was not violated. Neither was the letter of the law. Needless to say, I was amused but I wasn't laughing. I lost my sense of humor for awhile. I was outraged. I did get it back but not until I went through a living hell trying to solve a problem not my own, created by a woman who thought it well to throw a fit and remain beside herself until she got her way.

Two things bothered me about the complaint letter. First, who died and left this woman the queen of the American Spirit? Secondly, the woman is involved with publishing herself. She enjoys the freedom of speech but she expects a muzzle to be put on another human being.

I thought to myself, "No wonder she has the chronic ailment she does. She doesn't realize that she is in danger of becoming an old crony. She appears to be more interested in the physical (medical) facts of the disease than the metaphysical (spiritual) facts of herself remaining earthbound in the after-life."Her attitude reminds me of the individual who believes in the pill but not the prayer. More often than not, both are needed if the holistic approach to healing is going to be perfected.

In due time, I returned to the common sense every American has been gifted with by his or her Creator. She gave me the opportunity of seeing that I am principled for a cause, determined to stand upon the sure foundation of the American Constitution and thankful for her presence upon earth. She has taught me a valuable lesson. I had assumed that anyone in the publishing business would realize how important the principle is of, FREEDOM OF SPEECH! How stupid of me! Teach me, never to assume anything. Not only can't you make a horse drink water after you have led him to the trough, you can't expect the brilliant to be truly smart. A Ph.D has just as much right to be an idiot as the ordinary person has the inalienable right to express the greatness of intelligence.

I'd like to make it clear that I wasn't upset with receiving a complaint letter. It was the attitude penned in the letter that got me. It was intended to be a stink bomb. It stunk like a skunk ran over by a car. I thank God that it hit me and not the individual she had directed it towards. By taking the hit I could have possibly been rightly used to help save the soul of a woman who is poor in spirit. She had found fault and it hurt like hell for she had put herself in misery. That's the problem with judgin g another. You must become the hatred you desire for another to feel. And, if you must become the hatred first, think about it, you were the love before you fell beneath your dignity. Fault finding without the psychic ability to generously overlook it can be disturbing. You will find yourself beside yourself and until you are right with yourself once again, you can't get back to where you were before you fell into the stupor that judgment put upon you when ignorance was your friend rather than enlightenment.

There is always a danger in allowing freedom of speech to take place in a society. There are people who will cry "fire"in a crowded theater. At the same time, it is imperative that freedom of speech be guaranteed if life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are to be the democratic principles of reality. We can't afford to muzzle the ox who treads the grain. The American People need to hear from all so they can better make up their mind like the chairman of the board of a corporation.

I am quite aware that fault can be found with this newspaper by anyone who has gone to school, received a degree and decides to put their education in the way of learning. Their negativity does intend to invalidate by "knit-picking."It doesn't take a genius to find typographical mistakes, sentences that are grammatically incorrect, etc. It does, however, take genius to let the simple folk be what they are, simple folk, who have just as much need to vent their spleen as the "so called"experts or professional s. It could possibly heal the emotional nature of certain American People. We all know that pent up feelings can easily lead to mental and physical problems as well as acts of violence. Now, I wonder if the woman who complained will allow me to send her a healing or will she be offended once again when the first article was never intended to offend anyone?

All of this notwithstanding, we still love to receive your comments, suggestions or ideas that will improve the American Spirit Newspaper. Just remember, however, the design needs to remain the same else it isn't the American Spirit which is to be for the people, by the people and unto the people.

The American Spirit has made it to your hands. I hope you find in it what you need to have a happy, healthy, wealthy and whole life while visiting the earth planet.

Until next time, enjoy!æn
