The American Reality of Government

By Rev. William H. Duby

William Penn (1644-1718), English Quaker and founder of Pennsylvania wrote:

"Men must choose to be governed by God or they condemn themselves to be ruled by tyrants."

The American People are taught to support the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. These two documents are symbolically the paper wall between tyranny and freedom. What most Americans don't realize is that the U.S. Constitution was formed after such men as Thomas Jefferson pondered heavily upon the merits of the Magna Carta (the Great Charter).

The Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are precious documents of lawful concern. These treaties are the way the legal establishment recognizes the personal endowment of a people who were gifted by their Creator with certain inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Such documents are inspired by men and women when the despotic leaders of governments begin tearing down the good morale of decent people.

If we reflect upon history concerning what transpired on our behalf we shall see why the need to remain vigilant is a first priority. It is the responsibility of every citizen to try to protect the endowment of human rights granted unto them by their Creator who saw fit to send them forth as sovereign representatives of His Divine Life upon earth. If a people will not fight to uphold human rights they will find the human population void of rights to fight for. As said, "Evil flourishes when good men do noth ing."

World history is replete with ghastly stories of certain types of men dedicated in dominating the masses by military might, religious dogma and financial restraint. England has a history of men and women who foolishly thought they were chosen by the Almighty to be served by the people.

England had many despotic kings. Autocratic power surges ran furiously through the royal blood of many who decided to increase their power at the expense of the feudal class. King John was a classic example of a demagogue.

During the 12th and 13th centuries the income of the feudal barons increased rapidly as the cost of goods rose. However, at the same time the cost of government increased. In short, the feudal class was growing richer and the kings were growing poorer. King John was enraged. He began to extract the wealth from the barons. By royal decree he contrived excessive reliefs, rents, duties and taxes. He went as far as to deprive them of many entitlements. Needless to say, John made enemies with the vast majority of the barons (later the "House of Lords" in Parliament).

In 1214 the barons met to discuss the situation and agreed to take their complaints to John. They met with their king in January of 1215. John heard their grievances and promised to give them an answer by Easter. He had no intention of submitting to their demands but he felt he had to stall them until his devious mind could dream up the exact way to destroy them. Eventually, things backfired for John but not before he sent away for mercenary troops in other lands and sought the help of Pope Innocent III.

The rebel barons knew the tricks of John and therefore decided to storm London should negotiations fail in trying to acquire a peaceful surrender. As fate would have it, the rebels seized London without battle and John had little choice but to surrender to their demands because he couldn't muster a large enough army to fight them.

The barons presented King John with a document stating their wishes. He reluctantly signed what was officially called the Magna Carta. This Great Charter addressed the feudal relations between the king and his vassals, the procedures and policies of the royal administrations and redressed general, long standing grievances. Although the chapters dealt with specific issues of that day, several pertained to the issues that have become the corner stone of democracy, such as the chapter which states that no free man can be arrested, exiled, or "in any way destroyed" except by "legal judgment of his peers or by the law of the land."

As time progressed the Magna Carta was used extensively to keep in check the reigns of monarchy. It forced King John and his kind to admit they were bound by law, and by the popular consent of the people. Furthermore, it safeguarded the individual from the erratic ways of government. The Encyclopedia Americana states that the Magna Carta helped foster the thoughts of men like Thomas Jefferson. It formed part of the background of the political ideas which shaped the Constitutional government of the United St ates.

The original 13 colonies of America were established by the consent of the British monarchy until the time of King George III. Like many of his predecessors he was a tyrant. He felt he could oppress the colonies because America was simply an outpost of Great Britain. George probably thought they couldn't oppose him for they were without an army. There were many parallel memory patterns between the behavior of King John and King George III. The sins (error in thinking) of the fathers assuredly passed down in to the genes of George, The Tyrant.

There were 56 men in the 13 colonies who were fed up with the high-handed tactics of the kingly lineage and felt that the Almighty had placed them in America for the specific purpose of breaking ties with tyrannical rule. Soon it became apparent to these notable men that their loyalty with Great Britain must come to a close.

"Rebellion towards tyrants is obedience to God."

They met in Congress, July 4, 1776 and signed the first great document called, "The Unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America." By doing so they brought down upon themselves the British Crown, which had the awesome power of the world's largest army.

Here in part is what they declared:

The framers of the U.S. Constitution knew well the design and intent of the Magna Carta. Parliamentary procedure was the constitutional mandate of democracy. Unlike Great Britain, the framers were searching for a form of Government where the Crown couldn't usurp the throne of democratic principles of legal justice for the population. These men had seen first hand the devious methods of King George III. Although he was supposedly bound by the constitutional law in Great Britain, he felt himself above the la w when interacting with the 13 Colonies. Common sense decency wasn't afforded the common people. They were treated like serfs without the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness except for what pleased the king.

James Madison and others knew the "so called" democracy of Great Britain and other European countries would not suffice in safekeeping the people. In time they would once again be subjugated by devious men who believed, as the monarchy, that common people had no other place than to serve the Crown. They didn't declare independence and wage war with the intent to form another democratic government, however, by and large, they were in agreement to the democratic principles of equal justice under the law. Time gave them the opportunity of turning the tables on the kings and barons. People would learn to become self governing. A government where the King, House of Lords or House of Commons ruled the common people was an intolerable idea. Rather than create a democracy in name only they chose to create a republican form of government built upon the tried and true democratic principles of Aristotle, but which actually deposited the power in the hands of the people instead of the supposedly elite ruling class such a s kings, barons, lords and alike. It was a revolutionary idea whose time had come. They forged forward with the great experiment.

The U.S. Government would derive its powers from the consent of the governed and the concept that those powers are subject to prescribed limitations. Hence, the separations of power commonly referred to as the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches came into being. This government would be called a republic and not a democracy because the power would be public and not private, actually placed in the hands of the people of the Republic called America. In other words, a government for the people, by the people and unto the people was finally established upon this earth and the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights would be the sacred documents by which the law of the land would be the legal instrument guaranteeing this purpose.

What the founders feared most did happen in America. The English barristers (lawyers) and bankers slowly but surely corrupted the intent of the U.S. Constitution as framed by the founding fathers. By 1913, the republican form of government for the people was silently transformed by legislative means into the democratic form of government similar to that of European countries.

The American People are now like serfs, the House of Representatives and Senate are like the House of Commons and House of Lords. Just as the Queen is the figure head, so too is the President of the United States. Great Britain has the Anglican Church and the United States uses the news media as the pulpit to minister unto the public the morality and ethics of a civilized society. In all, America is a democracy like that of Great Britain and other countries. She is no longer a unique Republic where the peop le are self governing because the U.S. Constitution isn't respected as the most important document of the land.

What's practiced as commercial law is but the law of the sea known in former days as maritime law, now international law. The welfare and well being of the people is no longer first priority. Trade and Commerce is the primary business of the United States Government. The Federal Reserve Bank (a private corporation) and not the congress supposedly representing the American People tells the U.S. Treasury when to print currency. Congress doesn't legislate law favoring the peace and prosperity of the people but caters to the demands of special interest groups buying their votes. Four (4) trillion dollars of fictitious money is owed to the Federal Reserve Bank because the congress of 1913 had violated the U.S. Constitution. Presently, two hundred and forty (240) billion dollars is extorted from the U.S. Treasury and is paid to the Federal Reserve to service the National Debt.

What King John had intended to do to the barons of his day, namely subjugate and/or destroy them, special interest groups dictating the policy of the U.S. Government are doing to the American People of our day. The King of the United States Government isn't the U.S. Constitution as many self serving politicians would like for us to believe. Just as people don't listen to the silent voice of their Creator within, the special interest groups and politicians could care less about the silent voice (U.S. Constit ution) of the people. The people are treated like pawns on the chess board of the "powers that be".

The America of 1776 and the America of 1992 are in direct opposition to each other. I wouldn't be surprised if the founding fathers aren't turning over in their graves. Where there was once hope for the American People fear rules the heart in place of love for God, Country and fellow man. America isn't the land of the free but the land of the financially restrained.

Where is the Republic of America? Some say it is outdated. They are the corrupted who have willingly put their education in the way of learning that honesty is the best policy. America is now a de facto democracy where it had been established as a republic. No longer is the government of America for the people but against the people, no longer by the people but by the special interest groups (of one kind or another) and unto the Bankers to do with as they please. This government comes at the people rather t han from the people and the people of America are treated like the serfs of Great Britain in the olden days.

Democratic principles are still being exercised now, as then, except where Great Britain deposited the power in the parliament which governs the people, the congress of the United States deposited the power in the hands of the special interest groups. The American People do not have a voice in this government any more than the serfs did with King John or Parliament.

A revolution is at hand. Thomas Jefferson thought it well that a revolution took place every twenty years. I do hope it is not a violent happening. Millions of American People are already suffering because of political rhetoric.

The President-elect, Bill Clinton has promised much for the American People. I believe he must first please those who donated the political action money to his campaign. Whether he gets around to truly reforming this government as he pledged is something this generation might not see in their lifetime. Politicians of today aren't of the same caliber as Madison, Jefferson and Franklin. I believe the American People can vote whomever they choose to put into office. At the same time, however, I doubt the polit icians will do their duty until the people decide to watch them like white on rice. It used to bother me that the government of today isn't like the government of yesterday when honor was duty. I was educated to believe in one thing and my eyes kept seeing another. The people are awakening to the truth that the system doesn't work anymore. It never did. What was secretly hidden is now out in the open for all to see. The "powers that be" don't care because they are very much like King George who thought he w as impervious.

Dirty politics and dirty campaigns are designed to trick the minds of the American People. What's really going on behind the scene is something we can only guess about. It is certain, however, it isn't in the best interest of the American People. The government of - We, The People must return for the safekeeping of this country or else the next generations will be born into perpetual slavery. It would be great to live in a country where the government truly cared about the peace and prosperity of the people. The way things are going I doubt we'll ever enjoy such a heaven upon earth. I hope I am wrong. The "powers that be" will stay in control as long as the mind of people remain asleep. In fact, they have been educated to remain that way. We need to awaken or else be the forsaken.

We, The People of the United States of America stand upon a great land presented unto us by the power of glory apprehending itself through the blood, sweat and tears of God fearing people who stood up for what is known to be the upright thing to do for succeeding generations of offspring.

We, The People of the United States of America have been characterized by a Republican form of Government whereby the elected officers of this land are not bound by laws of kings but lend themselves to the duty of serving well the continual need of peace and prosperity.

We, The People of the United States of America are the embodiment of life eternal. Each citizen is a bright light in the life of the Creator, a shining example of love exemplified by truthful witness of faith in action through works of charity for all regardless of race, color, creed, national origin and sexual gender.

We, The People of the United States of America are entitled by Divine Providence to live, dwell and remain vigilant in the land called the Republic by our forefathers, land of milk and honey by our brethren and the promised land by Our Majestic Lord.

We, The People of the United States of America are offspring of the past ancestry, citizens of the present and parents of the future generations who have need greater than our own to live in a State where the Constitution is the Crown of Legal Law and the Bill of Rights belongs to all citizens. This far exceeds the parliamentary procedures of other countries who know not the immeasurable value of a Republican form of Government.

We, The People of the United States of America are One Nation Under God. May we salute the Great Sovereignty of the Spiritual Prince of Peace who gifted us with His Life, His Love, His Truth, His Goodness and by His Grace shall we learn the valiant act of unifying as members of the Grand and Glorious Humanity of Clear Conscience.

We, The People of the United States of America are Embarking upon a New Age. A new horizon is upon us. The time, the place and the need has arisen where, for the sake of renewal, the mistakes of the past must die - if the future will stand corrected by our efforts - to arise in consciousness and demand our rightful place as inheritors of a great promise, too often taken for granted by the lazy minded and hard hearted. The spiritual aspect of our being is the educator of enlightenment. Should we adopt the ne cessary attitude of deliberate service in doing the good deeds, the good Lord of the Almighty shall smile upon this Great Nation with Great Joyfulness and the hearts of the young and old will renew, invigorate and revitalize until restoration of brotherly and sisterly love becomes a reality.

We, The People of the United States of America are the Sentinels of a hallowed Nation, conceived in liberty with justice for all.

Pray-tell, "Who shall guard the Guardians?"

Freedom creates no ideologies, no isms, no dissenting philosophies, no moralistic interpretations which divide and corrupt communication between human souls. Freedom of speech and religion isn't honestly expressed in dogma. Rhetoric excites - then denies - when profane tongues brag promises later conveniently forgotten. It is far better to promise nothing and give your best in duty than subvert by covert campaigns that bargain with the devil.

We, The People of the United States of America are a generous people. Slow to anger and quick to forgive a fault. Let's forgive ourselves for hoping and wishing what can never be. The thing we can change is our attitude, the thing we cannot change is people. People must change themselves by changing their attitude until a wholesome perspective becomes the personal view of the divine. The American People have spoken for change. It is now up to the elected officials to do the decent thing and fulfill the need s of the people.

Love is the only thing we can take with us when we depart this earth. Love means nothing unless it feeds, clothes, shelters and medically cares for the People of America. When it does, it is the Love of God for the people, by the people and unto the people to do by sharing and caring for one another. When I think of love I think of this great kindness. I believe it is divine to be kind to those kindred in spirit. If this great kindness of love is what was behind the campaign promises the American People wil l prosper. If not, God help us all!
