Self Improvement vs Self Denial

By Rev. William H. Duby

Plenty has been published in recent years regarding self improvement. Consciousness raising efforts have been widely spread throughout the world. More people are concluding that the only hope of salvation is to take responsibility for the thoughts they think and the actions they do. Leaving it up to the other guy to do the policing of our thoughts and actions is foolish and unwise.

The world of people have only learned to punish the immature who entertain mindlessness that leads towards senseless activity of a negative sort. And the punishment takes on many forms, whether it be financial, mental, physical or spiritual loss. Loss is pain while gain is pleasure. Gain, by taking from another by hook or crook, is unacceptable and unnecessary. We haven't need to take, but to receive from God. Better yet, it is better to give unto another in need, than to have need to receive from anyone ot her than the God of your heart in the first place.

I do not believe that a true giver can't help but yearn to give unto others in need once that giver has received more than he needs from the Supreme Being. Just receiving your share from the God of your heart does bring forth the urge of goodness, to desire to give unto another less fortunate or poor in spiritual principles.

Clearly realize that it is the Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom (realm of perpetual power). He's not, however, going to hand it to us on a silver platter.

Just as we used to go to our dad to receive an allowance on a certain day, we must go to the God of our heart to receive the allowance of awareness, to begin realizing the mindless thought stuff that we have been entertaining, that is doing us under and/or keeping us down on ourselves and others. And when I say go to the God of our heart I am stating that we need to periodically back off, lighten up and let go. Unless we do - the pain of not doing so can become so great both psychologically and physically t hat we will find ourselves destroying all the good things and people in our life, and our life as well. We'll lose family, friends, careers and alike. All because we're being senseless rather than sensible.

If we're so hard headed that we allow ourselves to become hard hearted, we will kill our chances of remaining at liberty to do our bidding, ending up in jail, prison, insane asylum, hospital or grave.

To let go, the lesson to learn is to back off. The "how to back off" is the lesson of lightening up. The "how to lighten up" is learning to be amused. Being amused is the key that unlocks the door to a higher consciousness, where you can stand being ashamed of the mindless thoughts entertained and the senseless activity done in the name of trying to get somewhere at the expense of another's happiness. That door to higher consciousness is called meditation. To learn how to meditate, and meditate well, requir es the pure motive of yearning to back off, lighten up and let go.

Simply put, you must desire above all else to unplug from the world at large and get plugged into your world in specific, so that you can get your act together for a change. In other words, so you can regenerate rather than continue to degenerate by pushing your will upon others for whatever reason of self gratification. The more you degenerate the easier it will be for others to hurt your feelings. Your buttons are standing out in the open like a bad attitude. Likewise, the more your regenerate the harder it will be for your feelings to become hurt by the idiocy of others much less than that of your own.

Meditating religiously is a biblical concept that everyone in the wise gladly employs for well being. In the Judeo-Christian Scriptural Writings there is a Psalm. In fact, it is the first psalm. It is the song of praise unto the God of the heart for the awareness to meditate until mental resolution is enacted. Let me recite that psalm for the ignorant so that they may enjoy the wisdom of the learned.

1. Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of the sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

The symbology of the psalm is plain for the learned to behold. I'll shed light upon the symbology for clarity.

The counsel of the ungodly are the invalidators of our society that thrive in deceit by playing intellectual, philosophical and moralistic head games. They are in every walk of life. They invalidate spiritual principles and the people who are doing their utmost to do the right thing for the right reason to be upright.

Standing in the way of the sinners are the people who are psychically bent towards the living hell of thinking they have a better idea, trying to re-invent the wheel, or who simply refuse to arise to the occasion and transcend the race beliefs of color, creed and gender. Those who think they are an island unto themselves, self made men and women who foolishly think they know it all, having no need to learn because they are continually putting their education in your face, are the sinners. People who miss th e mark, error in their thinking because they refuse to learn by the experience of others.

Nor sit in the seat of the scornful are those that have a chip on their shoulder, seeking others to be in sympathy with them rather than having compassion for the poor soul that had to deal with their self centered ways of misbehaving; people who can't have it, nor can allow anyone else to have it. These are the scornful that complain and complain and complain instead of rejoicing for the others.

Law of the LORD is the concept of love in action for the meditator to unplug from the world at large of people, places and conditions, taking time to plug into the world of self so that the regeneration process of his spirit can become healed of whatever psychosis has attached itself to the psyche that is driving him into delusion.

A tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. He shall be grounded in the certainty of the God of his heart by being well pleased with himself that he is a happy man who is contented with his lot in life. His selfhood is intact and his manhood radiates because the tapestry of his soul has been restored by the elegance of the God of his heart and his mind sees the majestic beauty of it all. Life makes sense. The mystery of inequity is realized.

The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. The invalidators of spiritual principles are unlike the believers. Invalidators can dish it out but can't take it. When they are confronted by the amusement of the believer they become serious as hell. Often they rant and rave and run away when they are seen for what they are, wolves in sheep's clothing. Psychic vampires. Soul suckers. The ignorant fools that think they know better but can't face the truth that they are living in se lf denial.

The ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. Those that are not sincere in their endeavor to learn how to meditate are law breakers, running on the lamb, trying to hide from themselves the truth of what they are becoming by not meditating to purge from them the idiocy of failing themselves miserably. They shall not be able to discern the truth from the lie. They will not be able to tell the trees from the forest. As a result of this dilemma of not being ab le to have it, they won't be able to allow anyone else to have it. So, in due time, they will wear out their welcome because they can't help but be trouble makers.

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Those (seekers of truth) that congregate for the blessed purpose of keeping the peace, will begin to war with the warmonger until he departs from their presence. Slowly but surely, as lightening flashes across the sky, the invalidator will find all that he does ending in failure until he departs the earth for good.

We live upon an earth planet that is only one among many within the galactic universe. Unless we desire for this planet to become barren like the others, then - the time is at hand for a spiritual educational process to begin where the masses are taught how to think rather than what to think. No longer can we afford to allow anyone to remain ignorant in regard to the well being of the planet. Mother Earth, like any mother, can only do so much. Her Children, like the children of earthly parents, must learn t he discipline of wisdom. As said, "it is not wise to fool with mother nature." Yet, we do! Why? Obviously, we are not wise. Ignorance rules the roost for the simple reason that many are brilliant but few are smart.

If we are going to arise in consciousness then we must first learn the lesson of how to learn. Simply put, we must put aside whatever preconceived notions we have gleaned for the explicit purpose of becoming humble like a little child. Should we try to learn when we haven't first learned how to learn, the mistakes of the future will be like the mistakes of the past that live in the present. So, without doubt - we must have a humble beginning for us to begin manifesting our highest good upon this earth plane.

Millions upon millions of children attend school until adulthood descends upon them. The majority do not learn how to think for themselves. This is to say, in the light of the truth. All they seem to do is intellectualize, philosophize and moralize every issue under the sun. This is clearly seen by the way they are constantly caught up in the thought stream running rampantly through their mind.

So many are "spaced out" in our society that quality control, regarding thought pollution, is lacking in every walk of life. The beauty of being principled is that you learn quickly, simply and easily not to overstep your bounds or wear out your welcome when it comes to people who have a spiritual and human right of pursuing the life, liberty and happiness of freedom to express greatness. If we can't respect the space of others to think in the light of the truth for themselves, rather than contributing to b ombarding them with psychical thought stuff that is mindless waste material, then we'll find our space of feeling welcome on this planet wearing out, for we are wearing out the patience of those overseeing the well being of this planet, and the residents of all four kingdoms therein.

Let us arise to the occasion to learn how to learn, that the joys of life are never-ending acceptance, timeless endurance, everlasting life, and continuous comprehension. May we interact with others in such a way that we become more of our true self. And, likewise, may they become more true unto their self by interacting with us. After all, we're all either a problem or a solution to each other. Why not resolve the problem by policing our thoughts until there's no problem at all?

May the peace of God become the heartfelt conviction of your love.
